Cubic Zirconia is a naturally occurring gemstone. It is made of several small crystals of zirconium dioxide. Because it is a very rare gem to find, it is now also created in labs by jewelry gemstone manufacturers.
Cubic Zirconia is known as the birthstone of April. It is believed that the stone improves focus and concentration, helps in releasing the ego, clears unnecessary thoughts as it clears judgment, and provides clarity. The stone encapsulates many healing and meditative qualities.
The idea of Cubic Zirconia dated back to the early 1890s after the discovery of monoclinic mineral baddeleyite. In the 1920s the study to stabilize it was complete and the mineral was found to be highly resistant to chemical or thermal attack (up to 2500 °C).
In 1937 two german mineralogists discovered a naturally occurring cubic zirconia in a dusty and microscopic state. It was considered to be of very little significance and wasn’t given a name. As the years passed and the curiosity was fed, the study to create lab-grown cubic zirconia was explored in France. A technique called cold crucible was laid out which promised small crystalline particles. Later on, a soviet scientist in Moscow took it to his hands to perfect the technique. In 1973 the laboratory published their breakthrough and within 3 years the gem was put up for mass production. Since then, the stone has posted amazing stats in terms of sales and manufacture rate.
Since most of them are made in a laboratory they can be achieved in multiple colors as well. Zirconia is said to have the same metaphysical properties as Zirconium, an element present in a steroidal rocks in high values. It was started to be sold as an individual jewelry piece before it got its name for imitation of diamonds. The modern creation of the gem is also a major step in the world of sciences as one can produce customizable gemstones to certain degrees. Cubic Zirconia can be customized according to the budget, availability, and preference as it can be plated on to nickel, silver, or even real gold.
Cubic zirconia is known to last for about 3 years with daily wear and tear. Proper care and caution can spring its life for up to 6 years.
Taking the stone off when doing any physical activity like gardening, playing sports, running, or even bathing is advised by a jewelry gemstone supplier as chemicals that come in contact with the stone might turn it cloudy
In case of dirt, wipe the stone with a soft brush and/or mildly scrub the stone with lukewarm water.
If you accidentally bathe with your stone on, soap scum can damage the quality of the stone. To avoid it, rinse your stone in warm running water thoroughly and then tap dry with a clean cloth.
It is recommended to clean your cubic zirconia stone every 3 months even if you can’t see any residue.
Do not use harsh clothes or tissues as it can easily damage the stone.
